Dr. Yingzhou Hu, a Chinese pianist, currently serves as an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Piano Studies at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA.
He is a renowned pianist who gives concerts, masterclasses, presentations, and adjudications throughout the United States, Asia, Africa, and Europe.
His notable solo piano performances include appearances at Carnegie Hall in March 2017 and November 2021. Appointed by Governor DeWine, Dr. Hu was honored to be the resident artist at the Governor's residence since 2019.
In 2022, Dr. Hu was honored with the Steinway & Sons Top Teacher Award of the Year. Reflecting his dedication to pedagogy, his appointments include visiting piano faculty at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and collaborative piano faculty at Ohio Dominican University.
Artist-Faculty at the Euro Arts Music Festival and the Atlanta Piano Festival, He is a frequent guest lecturer presented at the Music Teachers National Association and abroad in China on topics such as African-American Women Composers, Entrepreneurship of HBCU Students, Young Pianist's Career Development, and Classical and Jazz Exploring of Nikolai Kapustin. As the Assistant Director of the Franz Liszt International Piano Festival and Competition, Dr. Hu demonstrates his commitment to fostering musical excellence. His service to the community included being an Organist at Riverside United Methodist Church, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus, OH, and Union Lutheran Church, Leesville, SC.
Dr. Hu's dedication to music leadership in the Music Teachers National Association, the Georgia Music Teachers Association, and the Atlanta Music Teachers Association. He has held positions as the VP of the Georgia Music Teachers Association, president of the Atlanta Music Teachers Association, and chairing in strings and instrumental concerto audition and composition competition of GMTA/MTNA.
Having adjudicated in numerous national and international competitions,
Dr. Hu has served as a judge at the Shanghai International Youth Piano Competition, Young Ludwig International Music Competition, Piano Wave on Gulangyu Island International Youth Piano Competition, Ohio Federation of Music Competition, Ohio Music Teacher Association State Competitions, Georgia Music Teacher Association State Piano Audition/Competitions, Southeast Young Artist Piano Competition, Josephine Evans Memorial Fund Piano Competition, and the RIPC Piano Competition. His membership in professional organizations such as OFMC, OMTA, GMTA, and the American Liszt Society member.
Dr. Hu holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Capital University, a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Ohio State University, where he studied with Tianshu Wang, Jeffrey Cohen, Alexandre Moutouzkine, and Carolina Hong.
Dr. Hu's excellence in academia and performance is recognized by The Ohio State University with the Graduate Achievement Award. He is a laureate of the Golden Classical International Music, American Protégé International Piano Competitions, and the Karen Jean Foster Keyboard Competition. He has performed as a soloist with notable orchestras, including the Wind Symphony of Ohio State University, Ohio Dominican University, The Ohio State University, Ohio Blind School, Clark Atlanta University, and the Atlanta University Center.
The United States has recognized Dr. Hu's exceptional talent and international standing by awarding him the "Extraordinary Ability in Arts" permanent residency, a distinction reserved for individuals who have reached the pinnacle of their field.
