Since 1980 first violinist and founding member of the Artis Quartet of Vienna. Performances at the most important international venues in Europe, the United States and Asia including Wigmore and Queen Elizabeth Halls in London; the Salle Gaveau, Theatre du Champs Elysee and Salle Pleyel in Paris; the Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna; the Philharmonie and Konzerthaus in Berlin; the Herkulessaal in Munich; the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; Carnegie Hall (Weill, Zankel and Stern Auditoriums), the Metropolitan Museum and the Frick Collection in New York; the Library of Congress and Kennedy Center in Washington; Suntory Hall and the International Forum in Tokyo; NCPA in Beijing and concert halls in Osaka, Zurich, Brussels, Athens, Lisbon, Belgrade, Madrid, Helsinki, Prague, Warsaw, Rome, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Hongkong, Bangkok, New Delhi, Shanghai and Seoul.

 

Having recorded more than 40 CDs he received international awards including Echo Klassik , Grand Prix du Disque, Diapason d' Or, Prix Caecilia, Indie Award, Wiener Flötenuhr and Midem Classical Award. Lully Award for the best chamber music performance of the season in New York City.

 

In 1996 he joined the faculty of the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and is teaching now as a professor for chamber music and violin. 1993-98 guest professor for chamber music at the University of Music Graz. His students are members of many international orchestras and prizewinners at Competitions like Tchaikovsky, Fritz Kreisler, Szymanowski, Sendai, Pinerolo/Torino and New York Concert Artist. Jury member at many international competitions.

 

Guest teacher at Royal College of Music London, Eastman, Yale, Manhattan School of Music, Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth Brussels, Central Conservatory Beijing, Seoul National University, Sibelius Academy, International Summer Academy Prague-Vienna-Budapest (ISA), European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA) and McGill International String Quartet Academy Montreal.

 

Chamber music with artists like Mischa Maisky, Torleif Thedéen, Nabuko Imai, Peter Frankl, Boris Berman, Christoph Eschenbach, Itamar Golan, Richard Stoltzman, Michel Lethiec, Sharon Kam, Wolfgang Schulz, Patrick Demenga, Hartmut Rohde, Ettore Causa, Juliane Banse, Frans Helmerson, Till Fellner, Stefan Vladar and Sol Gabetta.

 

Solo appearances with the Orchestre Nationale d'Ille de France, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchester der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde Wien, the Norfolk Festival Orchestra and the Neues Wiener Kammerorchester.

 

1980-85 member of the Vienna String Soloists and guest performer with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under conductors like Karl Böhm, Herbert v.Karajan, Carlos Kleiber, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Georg Solti, Lorin Maazel, Daniel Barenboim, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Riccardo Chailly and Carlo Maria Giulini.

 

He studied at the University of Music in Vienna with Hertha Binder, Josef Suk, Hatto Beyerle, privately with Alfred Staar and at the College Conservatory in Cincinnati (USA) with Walter Levin and the LaSalle Quartet.

 

Member of the Artistic Advisory Board of the “Gottfried von Einem Stiftung” and the International Artist Advisory Council of the Mahidol University, Bangkok.
